There are certain absolutes in life that we as human beings must always accept. One is that we will eventually meet our maker. Another is that every year we must pay our taxes. The saddest one probably is that my beloved Cleveland Guardians will never win the World Series. I’ll take a second for that last one to sink in once again, but I think I’ve finally made peace with it. OK, moving on. There are, however, some absolutes that are epic, welcoming and often expected with open arms and I’m here to talk about the fact that every time action stars Scott Adkins and Marko Zaror square off in an action movie, fans around the world will be treated to the best that action design and adrenaline cinema has to offer.
Well, today is a welcoming day as we now have a new trailer and release date for the two beasts of action’s latest bone snapping, bullet slicing new actioner as Grindhouse Entertainment’s Diablo is set to hit theaters, Digital and On Demand this June. I’ll shut up now and let you all indulge in the complete and full-on awesomeness of the new footage below. That’s right folks! It’s rematch time so let us center the ring! Please enjoy yourselves.
The official plot for Diablo centers on “Kris Chaney (Adkins), a former convict who gets released and goes on a dangerous mission. He kidnaps Elisa, the daughter of a powerful drug lord, Vicente, which leaves them both in grave danger from a sociopathic killer (Zaror) hell-bent on revenge against Vicente’s family.”
New key art and fresh stills have also been unveiled showcasing Adkins and Zaror and the impending confrontation between them. There’s also a distinct retro, throwback grindhouse feel to it which fits perfectly for the type of movie it is. Check it out!

What transpires in the new trailer is enough of a tease of the film’s hyper-slick action set pieces which showcase John Wick signature action and properly used slow motion to fully deliver the hard-hitting choreography on display. The opening of the promo also reminded me a little of Adkins’ hugely underrated 2012 action film El Gringo as it has that vibe and feel of his character in that one. It is a coincidence that both Adkins and Zaror both appeared in the last John Wick film although unfortunately, they did not share any screen time together, but Diablo is here to fix that misstep and give hardcore fans want they are waiting for and that’s the inevitable Clash of Titans.
I think we are in store for a climatic beatdown that will surpass the two action stars’ meeting in the classic Undisputed 3: Redemption. That fight is considered one of the best western martial arts brawls ever put on film, so it looks like Diablo is ready to dethrone that film. If anything, Zaror’s distinctive James Bond villain worthy look is worth the price of admission alone. His arm looks Winter Soldier awesome and anytime the bad guy removes the hand to reveal a knife underneath, that’s just the filmmakers knowing their audience.

Diablo reunites Adkins with his Undisputed 3: Redemption and Savage Dog co-star Marko Zaror with Ernesto Díaz Espinoza (Bring Me the Head of the Machine Gun Woman) directing. Zaror and Espinoza are close friends and have collaborated in past years with the martial arts action pics Kiltro (2006), Mirageman 92007), Mandrill (2009) and 2014’s Redeemer. The two just recently worked together again before Diablo with The Fist of the Condor which hit last year. Having Espinoza at the helm for Diablo bodes well for action fans as he really knows how to make Zaror look fantastic on screen and add in Adkins and this one has the makings of becoming an instant fisticuffs powered martial arts classic for the ages.
Mat Sansom penned the screenplay from an idea that he worked on with stars Scott Adkins and Marko Zaror and also director Ernesto Diaz Espinosa with all four bringing their collective vision of what they wanted to see on the screen into the finished product. Along with Adkins and Zaror, the film also stars Colombian actress Diana Hoyos (Sniper: Ultimate Kill, Oye Bonita, Nurses). Adkins and Zaror also served as producers on the film along with Craig Baumgarten (Universal Soldier franchise, Never Back Down), and Clay Epstein (Crypto).
In my last interview I conducted with Adkins for his last actioner Take Cover, Adkins mentioned Diablo and said if you thought the other films where he and Zaror matched up were awesome then we haven’t seen anything yet. It always bodes well when an action icon of Adkins’ caliver mentions that the film he did is nothing short of epic.
