Xia Miao’s time has officially come. After starring in a host of streaming and DTV films and TV series in recent years, one of the most underrated talents in action cinema is going to finally get his day as he is set to unleash his sick signature skills for the masses in the upcoming film from master action designer Kenji Tanigaki who helms. The film is called The Furious and it is being described as an “elite-level Asian martial arts actioner.” Coincidentally, I just had the honor of watching Miao do his insane thing in the film Eye for an Eye 2 (review here) which premiered this weekend at the Big Bad Film Fest, so I am beyond elated to watch more of this up and comer kick some major ass with a master like Tanigaki orchestrating all the chaos.
New images have surfaced online courtesy of Variety, who delivered the exclusive, and XYZ Films which showcases Miao getting his fast and furious on while on a motorcycle and throwing down in one of the movie’s ample fights. The film is launching at the Toronto Film Markey so scroll below to check out Miao in fine form!

The plot is probably secondary to the next level action we will be seeing but for those interested, the Furious deals with “a simple tradesman (portrayed by mainland Chinese star Xie Miao) who fights his way through a complex web of criminals and evil agents in a frantic attempt to win back his kidnapped daughter by any means necessary.” The script hails from Mak Tin Shu.
If Miao’s participation wasn’t enough to get action fans salivating, the film boasts a sensational international action cast including the one and only Joe Taslim (The Raid, Mortal Kombat) as well as Thai action sensation Jeeja Yanin (Chocolate, Triple Threat) along with Taslim’s The Raid co-star, the insanely talented Yayan Ruhian who was just seen in Boy Kills World. Yang Enyu, Brian Le, and Joey Iwanaga round out the cast.
Tanigaki spoke about the film and his promise to deliver something different and raise the bar when it comes to elite adrenaline cinema.
“The action is very different from ‘Walled In’,” Tanigaki stated to Variety. “We are very focused on realism, and I’m satisfied that we are pushing the boundaries of martial arts movies.”
For those not in the know (and how dare you) Tanigaki has been cutting his teeth in the industry for years as a tier one action designer doing films like the hit Rurouni Kenshin franchise as well as the recently released Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In which Well Go USA has launched in select theaters. The latter has been receiving nothing but praise and I will be checking out this week when the festival is over. He’s a master class on a level all his own. Needless to say, I wait for first look footage with bated breath.
With Tanigaki behind the camera and the talent in front of it, fans will most certainly get their fix for jaw dropping, gravity defying, expertly choreographed mayhem and violence as empty-handed war will be declared in the film’s fight sequences. Insane will probably be a word that is used a lot when critics like me review the film upon release.
Lock N Load for more Intel to hit on the Furious as we are your ultimate destination for your Asian Action Fix!!!
