It’s not much but it’s still something as 20th Century Studios, after months and months of being cryptic, have finally given us our first, albeit brief, look at the latest entry in the Alien franchise titled Alien: Romulus. The 60 second tease highlights a lot of screaming, which we all know is useless in space, a blood-soaked pod and several unlikely characters meeting a grisly demise at the hands of Facehuggers and the Xenomorph itself. The teaser does end with a rad shot of the movie’s lead heroine Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) armed and ready with a pulse rifle and she intends to go full throttle Ellen Ripley on the organism. Is it bad that I might be rooting for the Xenomorph in this one? Nah! Check out the first look footage, images and new key art below!
While we still do not know a lot about the plot, 20th century Studios has given us a brief synopsis to go along with the brief teaser. “The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Alien: Romulus looks to pay homage to the original Ridley Scott classic Alien with the look and feel of this being a slasher pic with a Xenomorph as the prime antagonist. We also do know that the timeline for this installment rests between Alien and Aliens but there will be no connection to any other films of the franchise. looks like the ultra-updated looking pulse rifle is the only returning character from previous entries. I still wish we got a full-on sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens with Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn reprising their roles of Ellen Ripley and Dwayne Hicks respectively, but this is looking promising although it’s only a minute, but you know me, I’m a fan of back in the day when there weren’t twenty trailers for one movie that gave everything away before it even opened. I’d be fine if this was the only teaser we got but you know that’s not gonna happen. It definitely looks more fan friendly then Scott’s last two films Promethius and Alien: Covenant. The addition of the bad ass weaponry from Aliens is a nice touch and here’s hoping it gets used a lot like in the second war film of the franchise. After all, Riley didn’t have any automatic firepower in the first one, so things are looking a little better for Spaeny.

Spaeny stars along with David Jonsson (Industry), Isabela Merced (Madame Web), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Spike Fearn (The Batman), and Aileen Wu (Away from Home). Spaeny is most likely the final girl of the film and here’s hoping Ripley’s can-do spirit enters her body so she can do battle with the iconic monster and represent for the human race.
