Here’s some exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting news of the upcoming sci-fi, martial arts spectacle Jiu-Jitsu which stars a host of action talent including Kickboxer’s Alain Moussi, Tony Jaa, Frank Grillo, JuJu Chan and Nicolas Cage. The film was announced yesterday that it will finally release in November and it will launch the new Avenue Entertainment label under Highland Film Group.

The film, based on the comic of the same name, will see a release on November 20th. Dimitri Logothetis, who helmed Kickboxer: Retaliation which also starred Moussi, directs here as well from a script he co-wrote with Jim McGrath.

Per Variety: JJ Caruth has been tapped as president of domestic marketing and distribution for The Avenue, which will handle theatrical distribution of six to eight titles per year and has signed an agreement with Paramount Home Entertainment to handle Blu-ray, DVD, VOD and digital releases. Films released under The Avenue label will be a combination of selected film titles from Highland Film Group as well as third party acquisitions

Jiu-Jitsu is set up as “a new Sci-Fi Martial Arts franchise from Dimitri Logothetis, Director/Producer of Kickboxer: Retaliation” and the official synopsis reads: Every six years, an ancient order of expert Jiu Jitsu fighters faces a vicious alien in a battle to protect Earth. For thousands of years, the fighters that protect Earth have played by the rules…until now. When celebrated war hero Jake Barnes (Moussi) is defeated by Brax, the Alien invader, the future of humanity hangs in the balance. Injured and suffering from amnesia, Jake is rescued by Wylie (Cage), Keung (Jaa), Harrigan (Grillo) and his team of fellow Jiu Jitsu fighters. They must help Jake to regain his strength in order to band together and defeat Brax in an epic battle that will once again determine the fate of mankind.

Also starting in the film are Rick Yune from the original The Fast And The Furious and Olympus Has Fallen as well as Marie Avgeropoulos, James P. Bennett, Ryan Tarran and Marrese Crump and this film is certainly shaping up to deliver the goods and I can’t wait to see the first footage down the road. It certainly bodes well that Moussi, Cage, Grillo and Jaa are all fighting on the same team. Expect maximum damage on this one from this all-star action team!

I interviewed Moussi a few years back for Kickboxer: Retaliationand we chatted about this heavily anticipated film.

It’s an an action sci-fi film that was developed by Dimitri and another writer. Jujutsu is an action, martial arts, sci-fi film. It’s based on this comic book concept they created and it’s almost like a cross between the Bourne films and Predator. It’s very cool and it’s completely different from Kickboxer. It’s going to be really unique and awesome!
