I think we can all clearly agree that writer/director Na Hong-Jin’s upcoming sci-fi creature thriller Hope is a must see. The movie has done nothing but ooze anticipation ever since the first images and teaser hit the web and this film looks like a sweat inducing good time with elements of what made these kinds of films back in the day great. In the remote South Korea village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung- min) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) are called to find a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the village. In the nearby forest, a coterie of hunters, including Sung- ki (Zo In-Sung) set out to track the beast and find themselves hunted instead. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading. What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions.
TRAILER TACTICAL REACTION: I love everything about this trailer. From the eerie vibes to the chilling sound effects that illicit nightmarish results. filmmaker Na Hong-Jin knows this genre and looks to breakthrough with something we haven’t seen before. The brisk glimpses of the evil that is on a rampage is a feverish chef’s kiss and this film will assuredly keep one awake upon viewing the full movie. Hope looks to blend genres with horror rampaging throughout but there is also action heavy elements and thrills to be had with a little levity thrown in for desired results so this is a definitive must see for hardcore fans who eat this stuff up. This is pure, unadulterated nightmare fuel plain and simple.
