Welcome to FOOT FIST FRIDAYS! A weekly dose of fight action where the experts share their thoughts on some of the greatest scenes of fisticuffs in action cinema history!

Ever since FOOT FIST FRIDAYS premiered over 11 weeks ago, the response has been overwhelming. From the mind of contributor The Cinema Drunkie, every week we highlight a classic fisticuffs filled scene from an action movie that has left a permanent impression on us as well as our army of readers. It is these scenes that make action films great and empty handed combat sequences are the top tier in the genre as they are probably some of the hardest to put together. The men and women who pull off htese high-octane sequences should be commended everyday for their work and the Oscars better step it up and give them their due by making stunts an official category at the Acedemy Awards.

It’s hard to believe but 2019 is coming to a close next week and this week’s edition of FOOT FIST FRIDAYS will be the kast one for the year. To celebrate, myself and The Cinema Drunkie are teaming up to bring you what we feel are the best adenalized scenes from the year.

First up, The Cinema Drunkie brings us the instant classic sequence from John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum, where Bab Yaga takes on an army of Asian killers in a blodd drenched scene where hands, feet and a whole lot of knives are used.

To close things off for the year, I myself, have chosen the near perfect climax from Triple Threat where two martial arts legends in Scott Adkins and Tony Jaa finally give fans what they want and take each other on in one of the most bone crunching and sweat inducing scenes of martial arts wizardry that we have ever seen. Add in Indonesian powerhouse Iko Uwais and you have one of the best fight sequences ever captured on film.

Enjoy this week’s double fisted shot of action fueled supremecy!!!!

JOHN WICK CHAPTER 3: PARABELLUM Baba Yaga Takes on Everyone with Hands, Feet and a Crap Load of Knives!

In a year that saw many many amazing fight scenes, my pick for best fight of the year definitely has to go to John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum‘s Knife Throwing fight. In a movie that is already being thought of as an action classic, this scene stands out as an incredible display of the masterful action choreography this movie showcases.

Combining Chad Stahelski’s direction, Jonathan Eusebio’s fight coordination, and the action performances of star Keanu Reeves and the incomparable stuntmen, including Triple Threat’s Tiger Chen and action movie staple Roger Yuan, this scene is without a doubt my favorite sequence of the entire franchise. Out of all the great sequences to come out of this series, this is the one I continuously come back to.

And now, without further ado, here it is for your viewing pleasure:

TRIPLE THREAT– Scott Adkins Takes On Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais for Martial Arts Supremecy!

Now let me first say that I featured this epic and climatic scene of martial arts mastery in Week 6 of FOOT FIST FRIDAYS but when the opportunity came up to serve up my opinion of what I felt was the best scene of 2019, this sequence immediately jumped into my mind. It was over two years in the making but to finally see action legends Scott Adkins and Tony Jaa along with Iko Uwais square off at the end of Triple Threat was certainly worth the wait and everything I could have hoped for.

The scene starts out as a two on one battle with Jaa and Uwais coming at Adkins hard and heavy and the display of talent on the screen was mesmerizing. All three combatents brought their collective “A” game to the scene and the choreography from action maestro Tim Man was spot on as he gave everyone their chance to shine.

Sure some of you will come up with what you feel is the best fight scene of 2019 but for me this one has no equal and that’s saying alot because of the level of talent we saw this year. Director Jesse V. Johnson delivered on his promise that this film would rock and the ending was worth the price of admission alone and I have watched just this one scene countless upon countless times since I got it on both Blu-Ray and Digital.

Now in the immortal word of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan The Destroyer- “Enoughg Talk!” It’s time to bare witness to these great action stars deliver the bone breaking goods below! Happy New Year Everyone and Bring on 2020!!!!

  1. I can’t argue with either selection. One that I would put up there with those is the final fight from ‘Revenger’ (Not sure if it counts, but I consider it a 2019 movie since it release date in the U.S. was Jan of 2019). I feel like the insanely good action of that movie gets overlooked, possibly because the movie surrounding it wasn’t great. – Part 1 – Part 2
