Action megastar Jason Statham and director and filmmaker David Ayer are shooting for the hat trick and are setting up a new action-thriller promising more uncaged chaos and carnage. The Beekeeper was a massive success and while their follow up, A Working Man, wasn’t as well received, it still contained plenty of brutal action and signature Statham. Now, action’s hottest star and one of Hollywood’s most gritty filmmakers are looking to strike gold once more with a new actioner called John Doe.
John Doe comes from massive blockbuster writer Zak Penn who has already delivered some solid flicks like Ready Player One and a little movie called The Avengers. Penn penned the script (pun intended) which will see Statham don a man with no name persona.
According to Deadline, John Doe will tell the story “Of a man with no memory, no past, and no name — and only one face he can’t forget: Eliza. As fragments of his identity return, he discovers he was trained for a mission still in motion and is being hunted by the very people who sent him. With enemies closing in, John must choose between finishing what he started… or protecting the one thing that makes him feel human: love.”
Miramax is set to produce and finance the film along with Statham per his Punch Palace Productions along with Penn and Paul Schiff. Black Bear, who put out Statham’s last two films including Shelter and the upcoming Mutiny will bring John Doe to the Cannes market and they should have no problem serving this one up to potential buyers given the track record of all involved.
With John Doe, action faithful can expect the same brutal, visceral and unflinching action that accompanied the two’s previous films. Ayer is no stranger to gratuitous carnage with supreme storytelling so get ready for another serving of Statham whooping ass.
