Keanu Reeves Reportedly in Talks to Join Don Lee for The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil Remake
Keanu Reeves is reportedly in talks to star opposite Don Lee (Ma Dong-seok) in Paramount’s English-language remake/reimagining of The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Reeves’ involvement is not officially confirmed, and his role remains undisclosed.
Lee is attached to reprise his role from the 2019 South Korean original. James Wan is directing, while Eric Pearson wrote the latest screenplay draft, based on earlier drafts by Shay Hatten and Brian Helgeland.
The producing team includes James Wan, Michael Clear, and Hollywood and action icon Sylvester Stallone. The project’s release date has not been disclosed.
A Detective-Gangster Alliance
The original film follows a detective and a gangster who team up to hunt a serial killer. Beyond that core setup, details about the English-language version—and any character Reeves may play—remain under wraps.
If Reeves ultimately joins the project, the action could ramp up significantly—at least in theory. His reputation as the John Wick star invites speculation about sleek close-quarters combat, hard-hitting gunplay, and intense cat-and-mouse clashes that could give the detective-gangster partnership a sharper, more relentless edge. None of that is confirmed production detail, but the possibility is undeniably exciting.
Don Lee has become a force of nature in both South Korean and international action cinema. His physical presence, bruising screen charisma, and knack for pairing toughness with humor would make him a formidable counterpart to Keanu Reeves—if the reported remake casting moves forward. Lee is also set to star in TYGO, the Korean Extraction-universe spinoff, as a former child soldier turned mercenary. That confirmed role offers a clear measure of his action credentials, while any speculation about the remake’s set pieces or Reeves-Lee dynamic remains just that: speculation.
For now, the Reeves casting remains a reported development rather than a confirmed studio announcement. Further news is expected as Paramount’s reimagining moves forward.
