I see what you did there Paramount and CAPCOM. When everyone was checking out the DC Studios first teaser for the highly anticipated Supergirl (which was hyped for days), you quietly dropped a teaser of your own during The Game Awards. That’s right! Roughly one hour ago, the official teaser for the next evolution of Street Fighter hit the world wide web and it features less than a minute of full tilt boogie and a cast that looks like they were ripped straight from the video game. The film isn’t due to hit until next October, but we have your first look at the gonzo breakdowns in store for hardcore fans and mainstream audiences alike when this one finally centers the ring. It’s time to push start and get those joysticks ready! Scroll below for your first look!
The sneak peek took place at tonight’s The Game Awards as the entire cast was in hand to present an award and create a little controversy at the same time. Check out the premiere of the teaser below!
During the announcement, a little bit of shade was thrown at another upcoming martial arts video game adaptation in the form of Mortal Kombat II, and while I’m sure it was all in good fun, some may not see it like that but I digress as it’s all about the footage.
We also got a slew of character poster to go along with the reveal which is odd seeing that the movie is 10 months away. When I say character posters, I mean everyone!

I told you. Seriously, that’s a crapload of new posters but they give fans the ultimate look at just how video game accurate everyone looks. The cast for Street Fighter includes an eclectic international ensemble featuring Callina Liang (Presence, Bad Genius) who plays Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Orville Peck as Vega, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, and controversial podcaster Andrew Schultz as Dan Hibiki. Plus, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Mel Jarnson as Cammy, and Rayna Vallandingham as Juli. Momoa is virtually unrecognizable as Blanka so I cannot wait to see how is in the finished product.

Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) helms the movie from a screenplay penned by Dalan Musson (Captain America: Brave New World, Iron Sky: The Coming Race, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier).
The official synopsis reads: “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”
I already see some fans dismissing this version online even before we see more but seriously, this is the most accurate and homage worthy looking adaptation of the video game source material. It certainly pays more respect to the game than Van Damme’s version did and that one is beloved by many. The action design looks a little wire-fu heavy which may diminish my enjoyment of the martial arts battle sequences, but time will tell and I will hold judgement until I see the full version.
