The original Tron was a classic in computer imagination and groundbreaking special effects for the time and the subsequent sequel was amped up to 100 with breathtaking visuals but ultimately drowned in its incoherent narrative. From the release of the first teaser for the third entry title Tron: Ares, it would look like Disney is pulling out all the stops and fixing the narrative issue by bringing the programs out into the real world. The latest extended trailer that just dropped yesterday is filled with some of the most jaw dropping moments and infuse it with music by Nine Inch Nails and this looks to have the recipe for recovering for the franchise. Check out the newest trailer below!
The latest trailer spotlights the main character of Ares who is a mysterious but all-powerful AI entity that is described as the ultimate soldier with biblical powers. Jared Leto stars as the titular computer warrior who is able to come into the real world via Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters) and with it, all sorts of chaos ensue. One major advantage that Ares has is that he can be rejuvenated at any time giving him a god like status. The movie follows this new breed of AI as it invades our realm on a secret mission with catastrophic results.

The trailer is filled with all the easter eggs original fans can hope for while introducing more of this world for a new generation. The footage is epic with Recognizers roaming the streets of the city and light cycles slicing cop cars in half. This third installment looks fantastic so here’s hoping that the whole movie is as advertised. Speaking from someone who saw the original in theaters and has been a fan ever since, this third film excites me way more than the second one ever did. Seeing Jeff Bridges still involved is like comfort food and he is essentially the glue holding all these sequels together from the first film.

Leto stars along with Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, Jeff Bridges, and Sarah Desjardins. The film is helmed by Joachim Rønning, who is responsible for 2019’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil so that does bode well for genre fans and it looks like the filmmaker is handling this property with the upmost respect.
