Dave Bautista might have shredded some weight and changed his look a little to achieve different types of roles in Hollywood but the one time wrestling superstar turned Hollywood favorite isn’t skimping on the action just yet. Bautista is teaming with Samuel L. Jackson and Thunderbolts+ star Olga Kurylenko for director J.J. Perry’s new apocalyptic action-thriller Afterburn which hails from the graphic novel of the same name.
Bautista stars as a lone treasure hunter roaming a scorched earth of the future who takes on a massive job for Jackson which immediately puts him in the crosshairs of every degenerate looking to score. What transpires is a blood soaked journey through a feverish nighmare fueled world where brawn and bullets are the only answer. Check out the new trailer and key art for Bautista’s latest adrenaline ride below!
“The apocalypse isn’t for everybody.” A decade after the Earth’s technology is decimated by a solar flare. Set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic Earth whose entire Eastern Hemisphere was destroyed by a massive solar flare, leaving what life remains mutated from radiation and fallout. The story revolves around a group of treasure hunters who extract such objects as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and the Crown Jewels while facing rival hunters, mutants and pirates.

Bautista stars as Jake with Samuel L. Jackson as Valentine, Olga Kurylenko as Drea, with Kristofer Hivju, Eden Epstein, and Daniel Bernhardt. Directed by Day Shift’s J.J. Perry, a resident martial arts and stunt expert turned filmmaker, Afterburn looks like a stunt filled and blood-soaked action epic for hardcore fans with Bautista showing ample moments of levity. Perry also directed Bautista in The Killer’s Game and has cut his teeth as a second unit director, stunt coordinator and stuntman on some of the biggest Hollywood films in the past like John Wick and F9. There is plenty of gratuitous carnage and display and with Perry at the helm, this one looks to check all the boxes with Kurylenko bringing up the rear in the bad ass department.
