It was leaked a day ago but Disney made it official as the new Star Wars limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to hit Disney+ in May. The announcement comes complete with eye popping new key art of Ewan McGregor who returns as the iconic Jedi which he starred as in the prequel films.
The plot for the highly anticipated new series finds Kenobi exiled to the sand planet of Tatooine after the events of Revenge of the Sith. Kenobi is keeping a close eye on baby Luke as the Empire is starting to terrorize the galaxy. Hayden Christensen is also returning as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader but it’s unclear whether we’ll see him in flashbacks as well as the battle scarred villain who must wear a special mask and outfit to survive. It has been hinted that there will be a rematch between the two masters which will definitely be worth the price of admission alone.
Bonnie Piesse and Joel Edgerton return as well from the prequels as young Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru who have become the adoptive parents of Luke. The stacked cast for the epic series also includes Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.
Deborah Chow, who helmed a few of the episodes of The Mandalorian, serves as the showrunner of the Obi-Wan series.
Disney did release a teaser of the series which hints at the epic scope of the series which you can see below. Expect a full trailer to drop in the new future.
