Marvel Announces a Sequel to SHANG-CHI is in Development!

Not that this should surprise anyone, but the hit MCU film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is officially getting a sequel. The news also comes with the announcement that director Destin Daniel Cretton is returning to helm the follow up.

Shang-Chi was another hit for Marvel Studios which took a chance on the lesser known comic book property. The report also states the Cretton will also be developing an MCU series for Disney+.

“Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings,” said Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige. “We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.”

There is no official confirmation about the cast but titular star Simu Liu is expected to return as well. The first film starred Liu along with Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, Ronny Chieng, Florian Munteanu, Yuen Wah, and Dallas Liu. Veteran MCU alums Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3), and Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) also appeared in the original along with international martial arts star Michelle Yeoh.

The first movie told the story of Marvel’s first Asian superhero (Liu) who is

forced to confront his past when his father Wenwu (Leung), the leader of the Ten Rings organization, draws Shang-Chi and his sister Xialing (Zhang) into a search for a mythical village.
