Filmmaker Neil Marshall has been in the director’s chair for some pretty rad genre films such Doomsday (which is probably my favorite film of his), The Descent and most recently The Reckoning. Marshall is one of those top tier directors who knows how to use what he’s got and use it to maximum effect.
That’s why I’m so excited about his latest endeavor which brings him back full circle to the action-horror genre where he started. We all know that Dog Soldiers was his first foray into directing and now he’s taking it up a notch with The Lair which just recently went in front of the cameras. The film was announced last year and now we have some gnarly new 411 about the project which pits a unit of elite soldiers against a nasty biological weapon that is ready to overrun the earth.

“Sergeant Tom Hook is tasked with leading a command to find Lt. Kate Sinclair, a Royal Air Force fighter pilot shot down in Afghanistan. Sinclair, pursued by insurgents, finds refuge in a long-abandoned secret bunker and unwittingly releases a deadly man-made biological weapon – half-human, half-alien and hungry for human flesh – the Ravagers.
“Hook and his team, accompanied by a handful of British SAS troops must save Sinclair from the insurgents, and more importantly from the Ravagers before they overrun the area and potentially the world.”
The Lair stars Jonathan Howard (Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, Skylines, Godzilla King of Monsters), Charlotte Kirk (The Reckoning, Oceans Eight), and Jamie Bamber ( Battlestar Galactica, Strike Back, Money) as well as Leon Ockenden (Mr Selfridge), Mark Strepan (New Blood), Hadi Khanjanpour (The Operative) Harry Taurasi (The Borgias), and Kibong Tanji and Troy Alexander.
Marshall blends genres extremely well so fans definitely have something to look forward to here. Add in the fact that he’s going back to something like Dog Soldiers and amping it up is also reason for excitement.
“It’s great to be back in the thick of the action with such a stellar cast and crew, and I’m thrilled to be shooting in Budapest again,” said Marshall stated in the article. “This movie really captures the mood and intensity of my early work, not to mention the blood and guts. I think horror and action fans are going to get a real kick out of The Lair. “
One thing is certain, from the above picture, it looks like The Lair will be bloody fun and best of all, utilize practical effects which seems to be a lost art nowadays.
Stay tuned for more and keep it locked and loaded right here for future updates as we are your destination for everything action!
