This is somewhat unexpected. It appears that Gerard Butler is set to return as John Garrity for a sequel to his comet killing thriller Greenland which hit last year. The sequel is tentatively titled Greenland: Migration. Deadline broke the news earlier and also states that Morena Baccarin will also be back to reprise her role as Allison Garrity.
Per Deadline:
In a continuation of the story, the Garrity family, who survive a near-extinction level event when an interstellar comet hits the earth, must leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a perilous journey across the decimated frozen wasteland of Europe to find a new home.
Chris Sparling, who penned the original, will also return to write the next entry as well. The film is expected to shoot sometime next year and is being shopped to potential buyers at this year’s virtual Cannes Film Market.
Butler will once again produce via his G-BASE production banner along with Alan Siegel and Anton’s Sebastien Raybaud and John Zois. Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk and Brendon Boyea will also serve as producers.
Greenland did good box office despite the global shutdown due to the pandemic and has amassed $52.3M worldwide under a $35M production budget.
