It was a very busy day at day 2 of the New York Comic Con but some rather exciting and awesome news dropped today while I was out which has to do with the planned Sylvester Stallone/Dolph Lundgren action series that was announced a while back.
Variety has brought the word that CBS has ordered a pilot for the show which will be called The International and will see Lundgren star as a one man strike force who workd soley for the U.N. Stallone will be working behind the camera on this one as he is attached to helm the pilot.
Per Variety: Titled “The International,” Lundgren would star as Anders Soto, described as a one-man covert black-ops team working for the U.N., who is called in to find asymmetrical solutions to the world’s most delicate and complex problems. He is part negotiator and part international spy.
Ken Sanzel will write and executive produce. Sanzel most recently created the series “Reef Break,” with his other credits including shows like “Numb3rs” and “Blue Bloods.” In addition to directing, Stallone will executive produce under his Balboa Productions banner. Balboa Productions’ Braden Aftergood will also executive produce along with Tony Krantz of Flame Ventures and Craig Baumgarten. Lundgren will produce. CBS Television Studios will serve as studio on the project.
Now before anyone gets too excited, it’s important to point out that CBS has ordered a pilot only at this point and has yet to order it to series. This means that they will have to like what they see before giving it a series order. Now, of course, it concerns Stallone and Lundgren who are two of the most iconic action legends in the world so I assume that they already like what is transpiring so will shall see.
If the show does indeed go to series order, this will mark the first time that Stallone has directed for television. Fingers crossed that this does happen because it will be kick ass on many levels to see Lundgren take out the trash on a weekly basis. With Stallone at the helm, I feel that he will bring some much needed throwback action to primetime television. Stallone probably won’t direct all the episodes if it goes any further but will still probablt be heavily involved as his BalboaProductiuons banner will be the one behind it.
