Before any of you come at me with “hey this isn’t in a jungle,” let me preface by saying that yes, I know but it sounded slick for the title, so I went with it. With that out of the way, Netflix has dropped the trailer for the survival thriller Apex that packs a brutal wallop. Charlize Theron, who is certainly the heir apparent to 80’s female bad asses like Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton, is taking on The Kingman’s Taron Egerton who looks like he’s having a gleefully deranged good time. Official Synopsis: In the film, Theron is a grieving woman seeking solace in the Australian wilderness, only to become ensnared in a deadly game with a ruthless predator. Shot in New South Wales, including the Blue Mountains, the film layers emotional depth into a high-stakes fight for survival.
Baltasar Kormákur helms Apex from a script penned by Jeremy Robbins. Eric Bana also stars as Theron’s partner, and he is another one that always delivers in films and TV. To this day, his performance as Hoot in Blackhawk Down is one of the best acting jobs in a military action-thriller ever. Bana is such a versatile actor that he can go from playing The Hulk to doing a Rom-Com with the snap of his fingers.
Theron is rocking it as of late as she also recently starred in Netflix’s immortal action film sequel The Old Guard 2 which wasn’t received well by many, but Theron was never a criticism of the film. Theron is a genuine full throttle Hollywood star as she is tough as nails, easy on the eyes and loaded with sick acting chops. Egerton is no slouch either as the actor has gone full adrenaline starring in The Kingsman franchise as well as the much-maligned Robin Hood which, sue me, I did enjoy. Egerton looks completely off the rails and unhinged while rocking a crossbow in the film which looks to merge films like The Grey and Silence of the Lambs.
Apex is set to hit Netflix globally on July 24th!
