It is quite sad that in this day and age I had to wait to share this new fresh look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day just to make sure it wasn’t AI slop. I actually saw this pic a while ago but now it is confirmed that this is indeed Jon Bernthal all tacked up as the Punisher with Tom Holland’s Spidey running alongside him. There has been so much fake crap in the last weeks that one can never really know what is real and what isn’t but thanks to Empire Online, this rad new first look image is the real article and it shows off a more locked ‘n’ loaded Punisher taking out the trash. Scroll below for the reveal!

A forgotten Peter Parker lives alone as a full-time Spider-Man until mounting pressure triggers a dangerous change and a powerful new enemy emerges.
Fresh off his one-man war on crime in the Disney+ one shot special The Punisher: One Last Kill, Jon Bernthal is locked ‘n’ loaded and going full throttle in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Tom Holland returns as everyone’s favorite neighborhood Spidey (even though no one remembers Peter Parker) and this film resonates the old school comics where the two polar opposite heroes frequently teamed up.

Bernthal was interviewed for the article at Empire, and he was quoted as saying that this will be a Punisher true to the dark nature of the comics and just because the film is rated PG-13, he’s not going soft on crime by any stretch of the imagination. The above image certainly deploys Bernthal’s Frank Castle fully embracing his vigilante vibes after the events of One Last Kill.
“Frank Castle is perfectly at peace in a world of absolute darkness,” Bernthal stated. “He’s not looking for a buddy, he’s not looking for a friend, he’s not looking for a hand to pull him out of the hole that he’s in. He’s fine living in there. In fact, all he wants to do is dig deeper.”
Tom Holland added, “I know that there are concerns about taking a sort of R-rated character and putting him into one of these movies, but the way that we’ve designed the world around him feels very authentic to the Frank Castle we know. There are fun ways to get around the fact that he swears all the time and kills people.”
Obviously, Brand New Day won’t allow Bernthal’s Castle to do what he did in the special, but this certainly bodes well that they will not water down the R rated elements of the character even though he’s blasting away through a PG-13 flick. I feel that they will do justice to the dark tone of The Punisher and even though there won’t be massive amounts of spraying blood and mutilation, we will still get to see Frank go savagely tactical. Unfortunately, there are some fans out there that need the horror level violence when watching The Punisher but if this is done right with respect, then this die-hard Punisher fan will be satisfied. Don’t bother commenting against this as I’ve been reading Punisher comics longer than most of you have been alive.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day was helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and this is the fourth live action collaboration between Sony and Marvel Studios starring Tom Holland as the titular and iconic wall crawling superhero. Mark Ruffalo, Sadie Sink, Zendaya, Michael Mando, Jacob Batalon and Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III also star.
