UFC hall of famer Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is quietly amassing a pretty solid DTV action filmography since returning from The Octagon. Cerrone is a legit combat sport fighter with some sick ground and pound skills, and those skills are flowing over to the screen. His latest, called Winter: Battleground looks to be his breakout action film as he stars as a one-man army forced to run a gauntlet of ruthless AI machines in an Armageddon laced future. No worries though as Cerrone has this handled and technology is going to learn that there is no substitute for humanity’s will to survive. Check out the new trailer for the upcoming actioner with some serious adrenaline to spare!
In a near-future USA ruled by artificial intelligence, one man refuses to submit. Winter, a former soldier turned renegade, hides deep in the forest guarding a stolen virus capable of destroying the corrupt AIs controlling the military. When his former brother-in-arms leads an elite team of cybernetically enhanced assassins to hunt him down, Winter launches a deadly guerrilla war of traps, ambushes & raw survival. As combat satellites enforce outlawed human speech & more soldiers fall under the influence of corrupted machine code, allegiances fracture and the true madness of the ruling AI is revealed. Joined by a fellow rebel and a tech expert who turns against the system, Winter races toward a final confrontation that will decide the future of human freedom.

Cerrone stars alongside Johnny Messner and Kayleigh Gilbert with producer/cinematographer David Christopher Pitt making his directorial debut. Wil Radcliffe penned the script which sees Jeffrey Decker and Johnny Tabor producing along with Pitt.
Cerrone stars as a warrior simply known as Winter who is essentially a nonstop force of nature being hunted down by a ruthless AI contingent that is turning human soldiers into their own personal machine army. Winter must navigate a frozen landscape of elite assassins, cybernetic soldiers, and corrupted machines to free a future America that is being held under control. What transpires is a relentless barrage of action, effects and brutal fights that bring back the vibes of the SYFY channel world premiere films, and I mean that in a good way. The poster looks plain bad ass as well.
Like I said, Cerrone is racking up some film credits including roles in other action pics like Project Legion, The Weapon, Mojave Diamonds, 3 Days in Malay and most recently, a standout performance in Prisoner of War with Scott Adkins. Here Cerrone looks right at home with the gritty and brutal film which looks to highlight his talents in taking out the trash. Much has been made of AI over the last few years, and it definitely looks like Hollywood has found a new source for bad guys with the technology. Above all, this just looks like a good ‘ol fashioned take no prisoners action flick with some seriously looking beatdowns in full effect.
