News broke of The Last Dragon star Taimak enlisting for a new martial arts thriller titled Paper Made a while back and since I missed out on that initial announcement, I felt inclined to bring light to the project as another martial arts icon has joined the cast.
According to Deadline, who broke the news on March 2nd, veteran martial arts action icon and filmmaker Michael Jai White is set to center the ring as well for writer-director Ryan Watson’s reimagining of his fight fueled short films Paper Line and this is essentially a reboot of those. While his role in the film is top secret right now, it bodes well that Watson sought out White well before any big news was set to hit so expect the action cinema star to mix it up in the film.
According to Deadline, “writer-director Ryan Watson’s film is set in a fictional HBCU (historically Black colleges and universities) and follows Tavon Watkins (Truitt), who joins a secret fraternity of Black martial artists after a severe hazing incident. The script was co-written by Watson and Jerron Horton (Forever).“
Myles Truitt (BMF), Walter E. Jones (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Quartay DeNaya (Pizza Guys Vs Vampires) and wrestler Daria Rae Berenato are also starring in the new project. Filming on Paper Made is already rolling in Tampa, Florida. Aside from starring in the film, White is also serving as an executive producer on the film, and he brings decades of legit martial arts experience in several disciplines to the film.
The list of martial arts heavy talent doesn’t stop there as veteran actor and martial artist Marrese Crump is also involved along with Jaden Lucas Miller (Beyond The Gates), and Zephaniah Terry (Ruthless), wrestler Jamara Garrett, who also goes by Mara Sadé, Sam Lee Herring (Back In Action) who is a veteran stuntman and martial artist, and fellow martial artist Jair Muhammad. In other words, this film contains a bevy of fighting talent.
I recently had the honor of chatting with Michael Jai White for a second time for his movie Exit Protocol and you can check out the exclusive Action Fix interview with the icon below!
Lock ‘N Load and check back in the future for updates on Paper Made as this one is shaping up to be a legit martial arts actioner!
