The OG Rambo has finally put his stamp of approval on the upcoming John Rambo prequel film from Sisu director Jalmari Helander. Stallone has been absent from any conversation when the project was announced and now that it’s in production, Sly has confirmed via his social media they he’s serving as executive producer!
Stallone delivered the welcoming news by going on social media to confirm that he will be personally involved in the franchise that has consumed a great deal of his life. Check out his comments below!
Fans have been divisive of course of the prequel as someone will be playing the iconic role of Vietnam vet turned one man army John J. Rambo. Will more come to the party now that Sly has confirmed his involvement? I think so but only time and first look footage will tell if hardcore fans accept Noah Centineo as the new warrior.
The script for John Rambo is penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (The Mauritanian, Black Adam), and according to official press releases, “John Rambo takes audiences back, years before the events of First Blood, diving deep into the roots and experiences that forged one of the big screen’s most enduring and complex characters.” It is also stated that “Helander will bring John Rambo the intense, physical approach, that struck a chord with audiences and critics. Filming locations will take place across Thailand, including Bangkok, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Kanchanaburi.”
With a proven action film director in Helander at the helm and Stallone now involved behind the camera, this film has the makings of being a savage and primal interpretation of what made a naive boy from become the one-man army he did. First Blood saw Vietnam vet John Rambo back in the states and his war never ended as it transformed over the years into full-throttle action pics. To see the origin story will most assuredly be something to see for any hardcore fan. Well, at least this hardcore fan who, yes, has been there from the beginning so I have a say in all this.
Lock ‘N Load for more to come!
