We finally have our first look at writer/director Guy Ritchie’s upcoming black ops infused stylistic actioner In the Grey which sees the biggest of Hollywood assemble for a full throttle pic that looks to deliver the high-octane thrills along with that dry and stellar Guy Ritchie wit. Take a look at the trinity of Eiza González, Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal in action below!
In The Grey follows a covert team of elite operatives who live in the global shadows, as comfortable wielding power and influence as they are automatic weapons and high explosives. When a ruthless despot steals a billion-dollar fortune, the team is sent to steal it back on what would be for anyone else a suicide mission. What begins as an impossible heist gets much worse, spiraling into an all-out war of strategy, deception and survival.
Along with our three leading heavyweights, the supporting cast includes Kristofer Hivju, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jason Wong, Michael Vu, with Fisher Stevens, Rosamund Pike, and Carlos Bardem. Once again, Ritchie writes and directs and also produced along with John Friedberg, Dave Caplan, and Ivan Atkinson.
Lionsgate was originally setting on a January 17th last year but was unfortunately delayed until Black Bear, who recently put out fellow Guy Ritchie collaborator Jason Statham’s Shelter earlier this year, picked up distribution rights and the film will now see a May 15th launch.
Initial trailer reaction showcases my enthusiasm as our fearless leads look sensational together and if successful, this one could prove worthy of a franchise. The promo is locked and loaded with plentiful combat action, machismo attributes, practical stunts and that sly Ritchie sarcasm and dry humor that oozes off the screen. Cavill looks 007 worthy and to be having as much fun as he did in Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare which also starred Gonzalez, who is also looking in complete control, and Gyllenhaal looks battle ready like he did in Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant but with more attitude and swagger to spare.
