Martial arts and action icon Jackie Chan is returning to his family friendly action-comedy ways as the star is set to return for the upcoming sequel to The Panda Plan. The follow up is called Panda Plan 2: The Magical Tribe and Chan is in full on high-octane/slapstick mode for the new film that sees the lovable panda Hu Hu being mistaken for a divine beast which puts Chan into hilarious motion for more high kicking adventure. Check out the press release, trailer and poster below!
Martial arts icon Jackie Chan and his adopted panda, Hu Hu, return for more outrageous, furry fun in the action-comedy PANDA PLAN 2: THE MAGICAL TRIBE. Directed by Derek Hui, the film is the sequel to 2024’s Panda Plan and stars Chan (Karate Kid: Legends, Rush Hour franchise), Li Ma (Successor), and Shan Qiao (Bath Buddy). PANDA PLAN 2: THE MAGICAL TRIBE was produced by Dora Long and action choreography by Lyu Shi-jia.
When lovable Panda Hu Hu and international superstar Jackie Chan stumble upon a hidden primitive tribe, Hu Hu is hailed as a “divine beast” believed to be the key to saving the tribe from disaster. As quirky warriors and magical leaders close in, Jackie must protect Hu Hu while uncovering the secrets of this mysterious land. Packed with laughs, action, and heart, this playful fairy-tale adventure is perfect for all ages this Chinese New Year.

At this stage of the game, I have stressed that I am more of a fan of brutal, serious Jackie Chan like he is in the spectacular action-thrillers The Foreigner and The Shadow’s Edge but there is something enduring seeing Jackie deploy is comedic action skills like in the past. They may radiate a cheesy and throw away vibe, but they do entertain and are perfect for a family night of viewing.
The Panda Plan 2: The Magical Tribe looks to throw Jackie and Hu Hu in an Indiana Jones style adventure that highlights Chan’s Charlie Chaplin-Esque martial arts action deign for thigh slapping hilarious results. Hu Hu might be CGI, but the creature is still adorable, and my daughter should love this and it’s great to share a Jackie Chan movie with her so she can see what an icon he is without the violent action that accompanies some of his more recent films. It’s harmless fun with Jackie demonstrating that age is just a number and a lovable panda to boot so what’s not to love?
The acquisition announcement for Panda Plan 2 comes with another acquisition as Well Go USA has also snagged another martial arts action icon with Sammo Hung’s Kung Fu Juniors. Hung’s latest will release in theaters sometime this year so be on the lookout for that one as well.
