Reacher is about to take on an enemy he has never faced before as rising action star Alan Ritchson is about to battle aliens in his upcoming sci-fi actioner. Titled War Machine and hailing from director Patrick Hughes (Expendables 3, The Hitman’s Bodyguard), Netflix looks to go two for two with decent original action films after delivering the solid crime thriller The RIP this past January. Ritchson leads a solid ensemble in a film that tells the story of an elite group of Army rangers who have one hell of a final test when the earth is invaded by hostile alien forces. You thought you were having a bad day.
Netflix and star Alan Ritchson himself have just unveiled a series of first look images as War Machine is set to hit the streaming platform next month and the star has commented that “This one’s a doozy.” With the pics, a trailer should be dropping anytime now.

War Machine’s official synopsis reads: During the final stage of US Army Ranger selection, an elite team’s training exercise turns into a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat.
Ritchson stars as Candidate 82 and he is featured along with Dennis Quaid (Reagan), Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk), Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad), Esai Morales (Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1), Blake Richardson (Mystery Road), Keiynan Lonsdale (The Divergent Series), and Daniel Webber (Billy The Kid). Jake Ryan (The Great Gatsby), Jack Patten (NCIS: Sydney) as 109, Christopher Kirby (Iron Sky), Heather Burridge (Late Night with the Devil) as 122, Victory Ndukwe (We Will Be Monsters) as 135, Matt Testro (Nowhere Boys) as 38, Jacob Hua (Runner), Joshua Diaz (Fantasy Island), Alex King (The Longest Weekend) as 44, and Will Curtin (Love at First Bite) as 42 round out the rest of the cast.
Ritchson has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in action cinema after the success of Prime Video’s Reacher and this film will hopefully bring the rain when it comes to blistering set pieces and unflinching military action. Hughes is a solid genre director as well and I always thought he got a raw deal with Expendables 3 and consider that entry a damn fine action flick in the franchise.
War Machine has been a long time coming as it was announced a few years back so hopefully the wait will pay off with a solid action pic full of bullets, bravado, testosterone and savage alien combat. It is true that a lot of Netflix’s original films have been hit or miss (with more misses than hits) but here’s hoping this one is on the good end and matches what The RIP did for Netflix’s ego. Military versus aliens have been a tried and true trope for Hollywood over the decades with Independence Day probably being the most successful and recognizable. I’m a fan of the more street level take with Battle: Los Angeles and thought that was one hell of an immersive experience with spectacular combat action and special effects.
Lock ‘N Load right here as a trailer for War Machine will deploy at any time!
