Prolific Japanese action director Takashi Miike is back, and Well Go USA has him for their newest punch-drunk offering in Blazing Fists (love that old school in your face name BTW). Telling the story if two brothers and one MMA dream to escape their suffering, this one is set to hit with just as much human drama as MMA combat action. Check out the newly released trailer, pics and details for the cult director’s hard-hitting movie!
From the legendary cult filmmaker Takashi Miike comes the story of Ikuto and Ryoma, troubled teens who meet in juvenile detention and make a plan to fight their way to freedom. Inspired by MMA fighter and Breaking Down founder Mikuru Asakura, the two boys make a plan to compete in Asakura’s popular tournament. When released, they discover that they’ll have to defeat their past outside the ring, before they can be champions inside of it…

Blazing Fists features an impressive ensemble cast including Danhi Kinoshita, Kaname Yoshizawa, Mariko Shinoda, Anna Tsuchiya, Chikashi Kuon, Kyosuke Yabe, Wataru Ichinose, Konatsu Kato, On Nakano, Karuma, Shoki Nakayama, Seya, Riki Sanada, Shuzo Ohira, Miku Tanaka, Nobuaki Kaneko, Susumu Terajima, Katsunori Takahashi and Gackt. That is quite the large cast if I do say so myself and I just did.

Miike is never one to shy away from relentless, visceral hard-hitting violence and bloodshed and Blazing Fists looks to capture a little bit of the director’s earlier works like Crows Zero and its subsequent sequel. there is certainly enough Gen Z angst to be had here, and the MMA action design looks stripped down, brutal and realistic in an age when extreme martial arts choreography is all the rage. If you’re looking for a little savage ground and pound style thrills, this looks to check all the boxes.
