Parlaying his legit talents as a martial artist into a blossoming action film career, YouTube influencer David Kurzhal (AKA The Viking Samurai) is headlining his very first fists of fury laced project from director Rene Perez. Titled Bloodstorm, this is full on retro DTV martial arts carnage with Kurzhal front and center delivering all the epic slo-mo kicks and action design you can handle. Peek at all the bone snapping mayhem in the new trailer below!
Surrounded by killers, mercy is not an option. During a transfer to a remote prison island, a determined young policewoman and a deadly inmate are caught in the middle of a violent prison break. Forced to rely on each other, they must fight through chaos to survive.

To go along with the retro action vibe, Kurzhal stars alongside some of the best the genre has to offer from back in the day including Michael Paré (The Virigin Suicides, The Lincoln Lawyer), Richard Tyson (Kindergarten Cop, There’s Something About Mary) as well as Michael Nesto. Perez, best known for indie flicks like Death Kiss, The Dragon Unleashed, Once Upon a Time in Deadwood and The Insurrection, helms the movie from a script penned by himself and Barry Massoni.

From watching the trailer, there is no mistaking what Perez and Kurzhal are going for here and with all the latest in action design coming from Asia, this is a breath of fresh air as it harkens back to the days when Don “The Dragon” Wilson and Jeff Wincott filled video store shelves everywhere with their adrenaline infused product. Kurzhal was also featured in the bone breaking homage to underground fight flicks with The Last Kumite so here he gets to carry his own film with some old school, throwback swagger and bravado to accompany the brutal and stripped-down fight sequences. Perez also shoots the action with a brutally definite 70’s Gringdouse aesthetic to it which accentuates the bloody, bruising action happening on the screen.
Coincidentally, Kurzhal isn’t just kicking ass on screen as he is also set to take on boxing icon Sugar Shane Mosley during the Hall of Fame Fight Night which is taking place at the O2 Arena in London on July 25th. The event is expected to draw in over 6 million streaming viewers and you can check out all the EVENT INFO HERE!
