I’m still kind of surprised that we are getting a sequel to the Gerard Butler led end of the world thriller Greenland. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the original and thought it completely delivered something different in terms of the comets hitting the earth and destroying everything we know trope. It delved more into the breakdown of humanity in the face of disaster, and I’m still convinced that the ones scene with co-star Morena Baccarin was one of the tensest and nail-biting sequences ever. I still clench my recliner every time I watch it.
The sequel is almost here, and the follow is called Greenland 2: Migration and where the first film felt more like an unnerving slow burn drama, the sequel looks to ramp up the tension and theatrics even more. With a January 2026 theatrical launch date, check out the latest trailer and Butler doing Butler things now!
Synopsis: In the aftermath of a comet strike that decimated most of the earth, GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION follows the Garrity family (Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffin Davis) as they’re forced to leave the safety of their bunker in Greenland to traverse a shattered world in search of a new home.

Ric Roman Waugh, who has worked with Butler several times in films like Angel Has Fallen, directs from a script penned by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune. Butler stars along with Morena Baccarin, Roman Griffin Davis, Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg and William Abadie.
