I’ve been waiting to see if this juicy bit of intel was in fact true and today it was indeed confirmed that Jon Bernthal will jock up for Spider-Man: Brand New Day! The latest MCU/Sony collaboration will see Tom Holland suiting up once again as everyone’s favorite wall crawler and this time Bernthal is going to be bringing the grit and savagery to the proceedings.
Variety dropped the bomb today announcing that Bernthal will reunite with Holland for the highly anticipated fourth solo outing for Spidey and this comes off the heels of Bernthal punishing the guilty on season one of Daredevil: Born Again. What makes this one so rad is that Jon will finally get a chance to play Frank Castle AKA The Punisher for the very first time on the big screen after playing the iconic and infamous Marvel vigilante in season 2 of Netflix’s Daredevil as well as two solo seasons of his own on the small screen before dropping in on the Disney+ soft reboot a month ago. Bernthal quickly became a fan favorite after debuting back in 2016.
Plot details for Brand New Day are still top secret but we do know that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings helmer Destin Daniel Cretton will in fact direct. Along with Holland and Bernthal, it is likely that Zendaya will reprise her role of MJ along with Jacob Balaton’s Ned. Sadie Sink has been rumored for quite some time to be involved will be involved in a substantial role and some are saying that she could be the MCU’s Jean Grey. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
Bernthal was finally able to cut loose on Daredevil: Born Again much to the delight of all his fans, me included, and will appear in the second season as well. The only issue with Bernthal suiting up as The Punisher for the fourth Spidey flick is that he will definitely be toned down as the movie will most likely be PG-13 but this will undoubtedly be the price we pay for Bernthal playing in the MCU so hopefully he will get plenty of chances to carve a hard R rated gauntlet on the small screen or maybe his own big budget flick.
The film is set to go in front of the camera in England this summer and it is already set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
Bernthal is also set to reprise the role in a one-shot Disney+ special that he co-wrote also where the actor promised that this one episode will deliver everything fans have been hoping for when it comes to the brutality of the character. He certainly did do just that in Born Again so lock n load for more to come!
