Ever since Legendary Pictures acquired the rights to Godzilla and other characters that are owned and created by the Japanese company Toho, I have been hooked on the films as they have certainly tapped into my childhood. I can remember every Saturday morning watching a slate of Godzilla pics on WUAB Channel 43 in Mentor, Ohio and I believe I’ve been a fan of the ultimate Kaiju and all others pretty much since I came out of my mom’s womb.
Ever since 2014 with the release of the Legendary’s first Monsterverse flick titled appropriately enough Godzilla, each film in the series has been a bombastic, monster devastating good time. Since then, fans have gotten Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the awesome team up Godzilla vs. Kong, and most recently, the chaos driven Godzilla X King: The New Empire which was a fan’s dream of Kaiju smackdown ferocity. There has also been Monsrerverse action on the small screen with the animated series Skull Island, the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters that have been rather hit or miss but I’ll take any and all that I can get.
Today came a pleasant surprise as the forthcoming sequel to Godzilla X Kong and the other films teased us with a special video that announced the film’s title, release date and the fact that a fan favorite Kaiju might be making his grand entrance. Scroll below for the ultimate reveal!
As you can see from the teaser video, the new title is officially Godzilla X Kong: Supernova and the prospect that Space Godzilla will make his triumphant debut. It’s also a public service announcement for calling in if you see a Titan but I think I’d be running the other way rather than placing a call.
Adan Winguard helmed the last two entries, but he is sidelining himself this time around due to other obligations namely his insane sounding actioner named Onslaught so Grant Sputore has been selected to direct this entry from a script penned by Dave Callaham who is responsible for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Sputure is best known for helming the Hilary Swank led sci-fi thriller I Am Mother.
The cast for the new film includes s Kaitlyn Dever (The Last of Us), Jack O’Connell (Unbroken), Delroy Lindo (Get Shorty), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things), Alycia Debnam-Carey (Fear the Walking Dead), and Dan Stevens, who also starred in the last movie as Trapper. Stevens was perfect in the role as the Indiana Jones like veterinarian to the Titans, so he is a welcome return indeed.
Many superfans have already established that Space Godzilla is teased in the video as the binary numbers seen on the computer screen spell out his name. Nice catch guys. The surname Supernova also suggests an intergalactic premise for the new film, so fanboys and gals are already excited beyond their means.
The video also announces that production on Godzilla X Kong: Supernova is already underway for a March 26, 2027, so Lock N Load for more intel to come as the Titans are ready to rumble once again!
