I’m not holding out any hope that JCVD’s latest action-comedy The Gardener will be an old-school return to form for the action icon and hearing negative things from trusted sources doesn’t help either. I do only trust myself when it comes to thoughts on movies but after Netflix’s abysmal The Last Mercenary which started out promising but quickly catapulted into lunacy, my expectation levels are set firmly on the low side for this one.
Blue Fox Entertainment is readying a June 6th Digital release for the film and the new trailer does feature some pretty violent looking action design but having the Muscles from Brussels teaming up with French comedic actor Michaël Youn looks to be the weakest link of the project, and he looks inevitably annoying so I will partake with much skepticism. Anyway, the trailer is embedded below, and you can now make your own judgements come release so check it out now.
Every year, the Prime Minister keeps a secret list of his political enemies to be removed. Serge Shuster, a senior official close to the presidency, finds himself named on the list — meaning he will be assassinated within 48 hours by a team of elite government hitmen. Condemned to a certain death, Serge, his wife, and his children only have one hope left: their strange gardener, Léo.

The Gardener is helmed by David Charhon, who actually is the director of The Last Mercenary also so there is that as well as this film looks a lot like the their previous endeavor. Charon co-penned the screenplay with Vincent De Brus and Sebastien Fechner. The supporting cast also includes Nawell Madani, Kaaris, Matthias Quiviger, Jérôme Le Banner, and Carla Poquin.
