I say rumored in my s I’ve title as I’m taking this all with the slightest grain of salt but sources are saying that MCU alum Chris Evans, who was last seen bringing his version of Johnny Storm to the Universe in this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine, is set to return again for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. In what capacity is the true question as there is no Intel on what he’ll be doing or who’ll he will be playing.
The report comes from The Wrap which states that he “will be involved in some capacity, but the extent and exact nature of his role is unknown.“
Evans could be returning as Captain America, Old Man Steve who is how we last saw him or potentially a villain just like Robert Downey, Jr. who is back as Victor Von Doom AKA Dr. Doom. We do know that Joe and Anthony Russo are also returning to helm Doomsday as well as the follow up Avengers: Secret Wars so it’s clear that Marvel Studios is going to pull out all the stops going forward in an attempt to bring the MCU back to former glory after a dismal last few years.
We all know that Evans last played Captain America (Steve Rogers) for well over a decade, beginning with his solo outing Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011 and subsequently concluding with the epic and iconic Avengers: Endgame in 2019. I consider that film one of my top 3 favorite comic book films of all time.
I think it would be kind of cool if Evans follows in RDJ’s footsteps and dons a villainous persona. Perhaps the infamous Captain Hydra? This character came about when The Red Skull turned Rogers into an alternate version. Doing this with these beloved actors would certainly spice things up and deliver a much needed new flavor for the universe.
Anyway you slice it, I believe that Evans would return full steam ahead and not be done glorious cameo. That would cheat fans of this epic return alongside RDJ. Doomsday and Secret Wars are both set to include as many Marvel chars as they can cram into it so buckle up and enjoy the ride.
We have a long wait regarding as Avengers: Doomsday is set for a May 1, 2026 theatrical release, which would be followed up by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. The rumor mill is definitely in full swing and it’s only going to grow the next couple of years. This bodes well as fans look to have a lot to get excited for with the upcoming slate of movies.
