After reshoots and release delays, the wait is almost over as John Wick fanatics, me included, will finally see first look footage for the Ana de Armas led Baba Yaga Universe spin-off From the World of John Wick: Ballerina which will finally unleash its first trailer tomorrow. The teaser today, announced on fans’ smartphones who signed up for alerts is simple and to the point as it showcases Beethoven’s Furelise playing from a music box featuring…a ballerina. The words “Trailer Tomorrow” can be seen etched into the box promising fans a first look at the guns blazing action epic which will hit next June. Scroll directly below for the goods!
Ana de Armas will play a lethal lady skilled in tactical violence who seeks to avenge her family when they are killed by hitmen. The film takes place in the shared universe of Wick so franchise stars will include Ian McShane as Winston as the owner of the Continental Hotel, along with the late, great Lance Reddick as Charon, who is The Continental’s concierge and right-hand man to Winston. Anjelica Huston will also reprise her role as the Director, the head of the Ruska Roma while franchise star Keanu reeves will make an appearance as Wick himself. New cast members include Norman Reedus, Catalina Sandino Mareno, David Byrne, and David Castañeda.
At one time Ballerina was its own movie having nothing to do with John Wick but in time, the script was retooled to be included as a spin-off. Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard, and Lucifer) helms the movie but the project garnered unfavorable publicity when it was revealed that franchise helmer and creator Chad Stahelski was brought on board to ramp up the movie’s numerous action set pieces. Franchise scribe Derek Kolstad penned the script along with Shay Hatten. Tomorrow, we shall see how he did in that aspect, but I always have faith in Chad.
I anticipate new key art and images of de Armas and company in action to accompany the trailer reveal. Will we see Baba Yaga himself in the new teaser? We shall see.
