You had me at Jessica Alba taking out a chainsaw wielding assailant. Netflix has just unleashed the trailer for their most recent actioner titled Trigger Warning which has Alba starring as a former special forces operator who comes home to find a murder mystery involving the death of her father. Alba does not go quiet into the night as expected and that puts her in the crosshairs of a very dangerous man who rules the town with an iron fist played by the always game Anthony Michael Hall. Watch Alba go ballistic in the new promo below!
Special Forces commando Parker (Jessica Alba) is on active duty overseas when she gets called back to her hometown with the tragic news that her father has suddenly died. Now the owner of the family bar, Parker reconnects with her former boyfriend turned sheriff Jesse (Mark Webber), his hot-tempered brother Elvis (Jake Weary), and their powerful father Senator Swann (Anthony Michael Hall) as she looks to understand what actually happened to her dad.
Parker’s search for answers quickly goes south, and she soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown. Unsure of who she can truly trust, Parker draws on her commando training and proves herself a force to be reckoned with as she hunts down the truth and attempts to right what has gone wrong in Swann County, with the help of her covert ops partner and hacker Spider (Tone Bell) and connected local dealer Mike (Gabriel Basso).

It certainly is a new era for actresses in action movies. Even though Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton paved the way for female centric action flicks, the 80’s and 90’s still saw a majority of the female characters being relegated to damsels in distress. Fast Forward to around 10 years ago and now we definitely have a huge subgenre of women kicking ass in cinema. Alba was one of those pioneers as well having starred in Dark Angel which was the project that put her face on the map.

The trailer for Trigger Warning is loaded with some fierce action design courtesy of the stunt team incorporating Indonesian knife fighting action design for the movie’s numerous set pieces. a lot of the bad ass choreography is on full display here including a breakneck sequence of Alba’s character defending herself against a baddie armed with a chainsaw. It also helps that Alba’s character named Parker is an expert in heavy weaponry as well so expect a mixture of firepower and fisticuffs for the running time. The action sequences will feature fast movement and even faster thinking from Alba to sell it for the viewers.
Alba also served as an executive producer on the film which was helmed by Mouly Surya from a script penned by John Brancato, Josh Olson, and Halley Gross. Additional cast members include Mark Webber, Tone Bell, Jake Weary, Gabriel Basso, and Anthony Michael Hall with Kaiwi Lyman and Hari Dhillon.
“I loved Die Hard. I loved Star Wars. I loved Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, all these movies I grew up with,” Alba told Entertainment Weekly in an interview, “but I always felt like I wanted to see the women kicking ass instead of always being saved.”
