Even when it was pretty clear that Jon Bernthal would be reprising his role as Frank Castle AKA The Punisher in the Disney+ MCU series Daredevil: Born Again, I was cautiously optimistic to say the least, after all, even with the announcement, things could still go awry, and I always say that I don’t fully get excited until I see on set images with cameras rolling and said actors on set.
Well! Today, I’m color me officially excited as The Punisher has officially entered the MCU and a bevy of onset images have popped up showing off Bernthal in full on Punisher mode wearing the iconic skull once again alongside series star Charlie Cox who is reprising his role as Matt Murdock better known as Daredevil. As you can see, Bernthal is bloodied and bruised which would insinuate that he has just gone through some sort of hell dishing out a cold dish of punishment. The pictures highlight a major action set piece that they were filming on the streets. I’m digging the tactical vibe of his new uniform, and his version of the skull has always been one of my favorite incarnations of the logo. Seeing both Cox and Bernthal together again is a fanboy dream, and I cannot wait for the series to finally hit the streaming service.
Vincent D’Onofrio is also back as Wilson Fisk AKA the Kingpin, and he is definitely going to be a thorn in our heroes’ sides as he is now the mayor of the city. From a new image you can see below, it looks like Fisk is setting up an anti-vigilante task force to take out Matt and Frank.
All the images above come to us courtesy of the Daredevil Updates X (Twitter) account. D’Onofrio, of course, reprises the role he made famous on the Netflix Daredevil series as well as the Disney+ limited series Hawkeye and Echo with the latter setting up his return to power perfectly.
Plot details are top secret right now, but we do know that The Kingpin will be the main heavy with Daredevil and The Punisher setting aside their differences once again to battle the corruption and evil gripping the city.
After the second season of the Netflix Punisher series, I was disappointed to say the least when it was cancelled as Castle had just fully embraced the Punisher within him. We all know that now iconic moment when Castle unloads a hail of tracer fire from his machine pistols on some very unfortunate thugs. Back then, that looked like all she wrote for Bernthal as frank but never say never as Marvel has embraced the characters from the Netflix properties for a rebirth of sorts.
Filming is well underway on Daredevil: Born Again after the actors’ strike delayed the production as well as MARVEL head Kevin Feige scrapping previously filmed footage for a major retooling of the show after he was unhappy with what he had seen. Unfortunately, it’ll be quite some time before we see the finished product, but this Punisher fanatic is ready to Lock N Load to witness the return of Bernthal as the gun toting vigilante!!!
