UPDATE: A day after releasing the official key art and images for the video game adaptation Borderlands, the new trailer is here giving fans a first look at the wild and chaotic flick. A bevy of stars load this one with Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Jamie Lee Curtis going all out with the first-person shooter mayhem. Check out the new footage below!
(Original Post) I have to admit that this video game adaptation was far from my thoughts as it’s taken forever to get here but it looks like the finish line is in sight for the new film Borderlands which just unveiled a few new images and poster for the August release. Loaded with a sensational cast that includes Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Edgar Ramirez, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, and Florian Munteanu, this one looks like it will hold onto the insane look and feel of the video game and will be one hell of a ride. A trailer debut is set for tomorrow so in the meantime, check out the new images and key art below!

The path for Borderlands has been long and winding indeed with Eli Roth directing the movie which was done over two years ago. Reshoots were necessary but Deadpool director Tim Miller had to fill in as Roth was bust directing his Thanksgiving horror film. Did I forget to mention that The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin had originally written the script only to have his name taken off of it when Roth, Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Joe Crombie, Chris Bremner, and Sam Levinson rewrote it? Yeah so, the behind-the-scenes drama has been in full effect for this one. Evidentially Zak Olkewicz was called in to pen the reshoots that Miller did. Are you keeping score? Well, here we are in 2024 and the movie finally will hit theaters on August 9th.
The official synopsis for Borderlands reads: Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas (Ramirez). Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Black), a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.

I’ve never given the video game the time of day so when it comes out, I’ll be looking at it from non-fanboy eyes so that will be interesting. I am digging the post-apocalyptic look to the galaxy swing actioner and from what I’ve seen from the visuals of the game, it looks spot on. Roth is a rebellious filmmaker, so he was perfect to helm the craziness of it all. We shall see.
