Seeing massive success with the latest Predator universe movie Prey which hit the HULU streaming service a few years ago, 20th Century Studios is fast tracking another film in the hit franchise with Prey director Dan Trachtenberg set to return in the director’s chair. The new film will not be connected to the Native American themed Prey which saw Amber Midthunder star as a young Comanche warrior who waged war with the intergalactic trophy hunter but will be another standalone entry titled Badlands.
The new feature film Badlands will involve a brand-new story and probably be set in a new era. Unfortunately, there are no plot details whatsoever to divulge at this time so you will have to circle back here at the site in the future to find out more Intel. We do know, however, that the new project will in fact have a female lead like Prey did so that’s interesting.

Trachtenberg evidentially wrote the story as well with Patrick Aison penning the screenplay. This had all been down below the radar for some time now and sources are saying that they are eyeing a July production start this year. 20th Century Studios is also wanting to make additional Predator projects in the future with Trachtenberg attached to them, so they clearly love what they have seen from the filmmaker. I did find it interesting that it’s stated in the THR article that broke the news that 20th Century Studios had no comment in regard to the news.
It’s also being reported that even though Badlands is not a sequel to Prey, that a follow up with Amber Midthunder returning is still in the works at the studio.
The original Predator, of course, starred action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger along with the late, great Carl Weathers starring as members of an elite unit of special forces operatives who engage a merciless alien presence while on a mission in Central America. The 1987 classis spawned three sequels including 1990s’ Predator 2, 2010’s Predators, and 2018’s The Predator with the latter being the most maligned entry in the franchise. None of the sequels ever reached the success of the original but the second film with Danny Glover is considered a cult classic to this day. Prey is considered a prequel being that it was set before the other films in 1719 and is the most successful follow up in the franchise to date.
You know what to do. Lock N Load right here in the future for more Intel on Badlands as we are your destination for your Action Fix!
