It’s been kicking around for a few years now since it was originally announced as the action film Vigilante, but we have news on Scott Adkins’ latest endeavor with director William Kaufman. The film has gone through a name change and will now be called Violence of Action and Adkins will star alongside Cam Gigandet in the film that tells the story of a former soldier who turns vigilante. Ironically enough, the new title was once the name for Chris Pine’s latest action film before it was changed to The Contractor.
The Hollywood Reporter has brought the word that Violence of Action is a hot commodity at this year’s Cannes Film Market where it will be shopped to potential buyers. The movie was penned by Josh Ridgway and Chad Law with the latter also writing the Scott Adkins led actioners Lights Out as well as Section Eight.
Per THR: “The story of a former SEAL, tormented by a decision he made in Afghanistan, (who) becomes a vigilante in the Big Easy who is brutally taking down a drug gang that is terrorizing his neighborhood.”
Andrew and Isaac Lewis are set to produce the movie with Jon Wroblewski and Christian Sosa. Grandave Capital’s Stanley Preschutti and Ruben Islas are executive producing the project.
Sources at THR say that Violence of Action is looking to go in front of the cameras as early as this fall and will shoot in New Orleans where Kaufman just recently shot his upcoming crime-thriller The Channel. Adkins along with Gigandet who has really been delving into action films as of late will surely deliver a high-octane tale filled with action set pieces that will satisfy genre fans.
“Scott is bringing his strong acting skills and commerciality to a fun action-packed script, nicely lifted by Cam’s natural talent,” said Tamara Nagahiro, Grandave’s international head of sales. Grandave’s other Cannes market titles this year include Righteous Thieves, which is fronted by Gigandet.
Adkins is one of the busiest actors in action as usual as he will also be seen in the highly anticipated John Wick: Chapter 4 next March. The action star also has the aforementioned films Section Eight and Lights Out coming out in the future as well as we wait to hear about release info. Gigandet will next be seen in Blowback which hits next month and that movie has him starring alongside MMA hall of famer Randy Couture.
