The Cannes Film Market is on full effect this week and many films are vying for distribution deals so their product can reach the masses. One film that has hit the event and should have no problem striking deals is director William Kaufman’s upcoming crime thriller The Channel. This one should infuse the usual carnage and endless rounds of ammo for genre fans and we have some new teaser key art for you to glance at below which assembles the cast including Clayne Crawford (TV’s Lethal Weapon), and Max Martini (TV’s The Unit, 13 Hours). The Official Synopsis reads: After their bank heist goes wrong, a desperate criminal (Crawford), his out-of-control brother (Martini) and their motley crew of ex-marines must escape New Orleans and the determined FBI agent who pursues them.

I had the opportunity interview director William Kaufman while he was filming the movie down in New Orleans and he gave us a sneak peek of what to expect from this full throttle throwback to old school action.

In this story our crew of bank robbers were former Marine special operations operators with extensive deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq. I think you’ll see a lot of great examples of very visceral action pieces that will showcase those small team special operation tactics. That was a blast. You’ll also see some very ugly and brutal up close and personal gunfights as our protagonist battle rival gangsters and the cops chasing them. I’m excited I can’t wait to share it with you.

Kaufman also spoke of what the cast went through to be tactical ready for the production.

Our cast of bank robbers went through a pretty intense tactical training program during pre-production. Max and Clayne both wanted someone that had lived and breathed the world of the US special operations community.

So with those marching orders in place I brought on one of my dearest friends, former Navy SEAL Scott Phillips of Tac-Frog Global. Scott’s a great guy and an amazing instructor and was instrumental to building and crafting the choreography within the film.

Genre fans will surely get their fill of bullet riddled action set pieces and carnage as Kaufman is one of the premiere indie action maestros working in the industry today. Kaufman is a favorite of mine as he constantly brings a sense of throwback, old school kick ass action vibes to his movies. With a sensational cast like this which also includes Juliene Joyner, Jaren Mitchell and Nicoye Banks, The Channel will surely be another successful notch in Kaufman’s firepower filmography.
