It’s official. After weeks of speculation and an announcement that they were already headed to Disney+ in Canada, the word has come down that all the former Netflix Marvel shows will debut in the U.S. as well this month. Besides here and In Canada, other territories will include the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Variety brought the word that Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher will all hit the Disney platform starting on March 16th. The limited series The Defenders will be included as well. It was also mentioned that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.LD., which ran on ABC, will also be available.
This is certainly good news as it looks like the MCU is set to welcome all these characters into the fold. Charlie Cox has already entered the MCU officially when Matt Murdock (Daredevil) made an appearance in the blockbuster Spider-Man: Far From Home. His adversary The Kingpin, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, was last seen on Hawkeye.
Fans are also wondering if these series and the other characters will continue in some way, shape or form now that Disney has acquired the rights back from Netflix. I personally want to see more of Jon Bernthal as The Punisher as he was just starting to heat up at the end of season 2.
The former Netflix shows were more adult oriented and violent in nature than the usual programming seen on the platform so the streamer will rectify the problem by updating the existing parental controls in the U.S. which will advertise all subscribers to officially update their settings. This includes setting content restrictions for each profile and adding a PIN to watch these shows. This is also good news as some believed that Disney would censor them for the move. They will indeed be unedited in nature for all to enjoy.
“Disney+ has served as the home for some of the most beloved brands in the industry, and the addition of these live-action shows brings more from the Marvel brand together, all in one place. We have experienced great success with an expanded content offering on Disney+ across our global markets and are excited to continue that here in the U.S. as well by offering our consumers not only great content with the new Marvel additions, but also a set of features that help ensure a viewing experience most suitable for them and their family,” Michael Paull, President of Disney Streaming stated.
So there you have it. Starting on March 16th, these Marvel characters are coming home so hopefully the sky’s the limit for future appearances. We will have to wait and see but this is a good sign.
