Gerard Butler is back in action as the star is currently in Saudi Arabia filming his newest action-thriller titled Kandahar. Deadline has dropped the exclusive today with the news that this is the first Hollywood film to be shot entirely in the country. There is also news that Death On The Nile star Ali Fazal and Navid Negahban of 24 and Homeland fame have joined the cast in unspecified roles.
Per Deadline: Butler star as Tom Harris, an undercover CIA operative, stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. He must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator, to an extraction point in Kandahar, all whilst avoiding the elite special forces tasked with hunting them down.
Butler is also producing the movie along with Alan Siegelvia via his G-Base production banner along with Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Brendon Boyea. Kandahar also reunites Butler with his Angel has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh who is again sitting in the director’s chair for this one.
Butler is a busy man and along with this project, he will also be set to film the sequel to Den of Thieves titled Den of Thieves: Pantera along with Greenland: Migration which is the follow up to his successful meteor disaster pic. Butler also has the action films The Plane and Chase which are both currently in post-production. There is no other news on a sequel to his Has Fallen franchise but that looks to be tabled right now after Butler sued producers of the first film citing he did not receive $10 million in compensation that was owed to him.
