With the release of Gerard Butler’s new trailer for Greenland, which will hit in August, we have confirmation on two other anticipated projects from the star in another Has Fallen and Den of Thieves sequel are in development. That’s right! Mike Banning and Big Nick are coming back to take down the bad guys!

In speaking with EW, Butler talked about the return of Mike Banning in another Has Fallen adventure by saying, “I think with everything going on, we need him (Mike Banning). He needs to come back. Yeah, I think you will be seeing another. We’re toying away with another really fantastic idea that we’re working on at the moment that obviously we can’t say too much about.”

News had surfaced months back that Lionsgate is looking to make more films in the franchise along with spin-off potential and with the last installment, Angel Has Fallen, making over $100 million worldwide, it looks like the super secret service agent will most likely make a comeback.

In the same article with EW, Butler also gave us an update on the planned Den Of Thieves sequel that has been talked about for a while now.

We’re working on that script at the moment, and I’m getting pages daily from (writer/director) Christian Gudegast. It’s a fun ride, spreading across North America into Europe and the diamond district of Marseilles. It’s very cool and has a more European vibe this time. All the fun characters, Big Nick, Donnie, and Lobbin’ Bob [Jordan Bridges], will be back. And I’m really excited about it.”

O’Shea Jackson Jr. is also set to return for the sequel as his character figured prominently in the movie’s twist in the plot. It really set the tone for the follow up and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Butler also is planning on a new thriller titled Kandahar which will reunite him with Angel has Fallen Director Ric Roman Waugh which was just announced at the virtual Cannes Film Festival.

It’s great to see Butler working overtime with all these action related projects as I feel he is one of the few 80’s and 90’s throwback type of actor working in the genre today. I have said countless times that his character of Mike Banning is the John McClane of this era.

Banning and Big Nick are two contrasting styles of action hero or anti-hero in Nick’s case and these franchises really pull from the 80’s and the no nonsense styles of action we got. Also referred to as the meat and potatoes era of action stars, Butler really has the knack for gritty and brutal, old school action.

Keep it locked and loaded right here for more to come with Gerard Butler as we are your source for everything action!

In the meantime, check out Butler in action from both films to get you properly in the mood!
