The moment a lot of us have been waiting for has finally arrived as Warner Bros and HBOMAX have finally unleashed the first trailer for the epic Mortal Kombat reboot which promises to be more bloody, brutal and downright destructive then the previous films that were released in the 90’s. Judging from the first look footage in the newly released red band trailer below, game fans will have much to be excited about as the brutality and gore is on full display. Check out the empty handed carnage and prepare yourself for Mortal Kombat!

In “Mortal Kombat,” MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage — or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana — the immense power from within his soul — in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?

The cast roll out includes Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Josh Lawson as Kano, Mehcad Brooks as Jax Briggs, Tadanobu Asan as Raiden, Ludi Lin is Liu Kang and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero. Simon McQuoid helms the movie from a screenplay by Dave Callaham and Greg Russo with Aquaman director James Wan serving as producer.

This new version looks like it’s going to kick all the previous film and TV incarnations in the ass and is going to literally rip out their spines at the same time. The red band trailer is loaded with enough extreme violence to satisfy all you hungry fans. Like I said, I would be happy with just solid fight sequences and from the trailer, this one’s going to deliver in spades…bloody spades that is.

The reboot has been a long time coming so indulge yourself in the trailer below and get ready to fight on April 16th. “Get Over Here!”
