You gotta love the internet and social media. I mean back in the day when neither were a thing, movie fans were actually surprised and delighted to not know what was going to happen in upcoming movies and were excited to see certain things or events or characters come to life without being spoiled. You didn’t have douchebags everywhere trying to ruin everyone’s good time but alas this is the world we now live in.
With that said, the MCU’s worst kept secret finally became official as Chris Evans is set to make his triumphant return in next year’s cinematic spectacle of gargantuan comic book proportions. Marvel Studios is said to be releasing four separate teasers for the upcoming event that is Avengers: Doomsday and with it, Steve Rogers indeed will return as that is what is stated at the end of the first announcement teaser. “Steve Rogers will Return in Avengers: Doomsday.”
Of course, we all knew this before today as the teaser, which was playing in front of this weekend’s opening of Avatar: Fire and Ash was pretty much leaked everywhere you turned. This is the day and age where countless individuals want to harsh your mellow and blow every surprise before you sit your butt in a movie theater seat to actually be…wait for it…surprised. I knew what the teaser was but I didn’t watch any of the leaks as I didn’t go to see the third Avatar film this weekend but I finally did view it tonight after I got home from work and even though I knew, i still got goosebumps. Check out the return of the OG Avenger below, oh and he’s a baby daddy to boot!
There are actually some saying that bringing back original MCU characters is desperate, but I feel that this is what they had in mind all along. Sure, Chris Evans said he was done with Captain America after Avengers: Endgame and he even pulled the wool over our eyes in Deadpool and Wolverine as we all thought Rogers was back but only to be tricked as it was actually Evans reprising his role of Johnny Storm from 20th Century Fox’s initial Fantastic Four films. I thought it was hilarious and even though Evans said he was through, I believe he said that because Marvel wanted him too and this has all been in the making for years now. There are cynics, haters and trolls out there saying this is a cash grab and that Marvel is desperate after recent years of futility but I have one question. Can’t we just be excited and hope that this is going to be stellar? After all, the inner ten year old in me is jumping up and down and no one will dampen my enthusiasm.
After all, The Russo Brothers addressed the return of Rogers with a quote that I feel sats it all:
“The character that changed our lives. The story that brought us all here together. It was always going to come back to this.”
The teaser is quick and simple, and it is just enough to give serious fans chills as we see Rogers pull up to his house, enter and put away his Captain America uniform only to unveil that he is a father. The classic Avengers theme is played ever so slightly in the background and when the announcement is made that he is returning, the teaser cuts to the official Avengers: Doomsday logo and the Doomsday clock starts counting down to next December.

There are supposedly three more teasers on the way with the second already spoiled as Chris Hemsworth’s Thor pleading to his father Odin to make it back to his daughter and this all leads me to believe that Marvel and The Russo Brothers are building to something catastrophic. The third teaser is said to be Robert Downey, Jr.’s Doctor Doom with the fourth still up in the air. Marvel Studios hasn’t officially made any announcements about any of this but seriously, do they have to because the internet is doing it for them.
The plot is classified of course but I do have a theory about it. I’ll give you a hint as I feel it will take the stinger scene of The Fantastic Four and now Rogers as a father and take the film in a certain direction. I’ll give you a one word clue…offspring. I could be wrong and I usually am but we shall see.
While we wait for the second leaked trailer and Thor’s return to officially hit the web and with it the other two teasers, it is clear that Marvel, Kevin Feige and The Russos are set to unleash greatness as the MCU has been hit or miss, with more misses, in recent years. This, I feel, will be its return to form and glory.
Along with Chris Evans, who is officially returning, the cast already announced during chair watch months ago include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman/Sue Storm, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright as Shuri/Black Panther, and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. Other returning MCU stars include Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent/John Walker, Tenoch Huerta’s Namor, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing/Ben Grimm, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer’s Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast, Lewis Pullman’s Bob/Sentry, Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm/Human Torch, David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Winston Duke‘s M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen‘s Ava Starr/Ghost, and Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki.
let us not forget the OG X-Men from the 20th Century Fox franchise as Patrick Stewart‘s Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen‘s Magneto, Alan Cumming‘s Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn‘s Mystique, James Marsden‘s Cyclops, and Channing Tatum‘s Gambit are also set to play a major role in the film. I’m sure there will be more suprise characters to pop up leading into Avengers: Secret Wars.
I will be back in the near future as more teasers and announcements strike in what will be a very busy year leading up to the next Avengers film. Oh, and there is that little movie called Spider-Man: Brand New Day hitting in July as well.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
