This news actually broke a few months ago but I was waiting until a credible service announced it and now that Netflix itself has brought the word it is time to say that international action star Don Lee has joined the Extraction universe! I just brought intel that a new image of Omar Sy has surfaced for his headlining spin-off series Mercenary: An Extraction Series and now Lee is ready to bring some Korean flavor and brutality to the blockbuster action franchise from The Russo Brothers.
According to Netflix’s TUDUM, “The exact location of the Extraction universe’s next mission has been chosen. Don Lee (The Roundup franchise, Marvel’s Eternals, Train to Busan), Lee Jin-uk (Squid Game, Sweet Home), and Lisa of BLACKPINK (The White Lotus) are headed to South Korea to star in TYGO, an upcoming spin-off film for Netflix.”
The synopsis for TYGO deals with “Tygo, a former child soldier turned mercenary who gets revenge on Korea’s underworld after a mission gone wrong.” TYGO is the latest entry with the Netflix and AGBO (The Russo Brothers’ production banner) partnership to broaden the Extraction franchise
“We’re thrilled to explore the world of Extraction through a South Korean lens, teaming up with legendary action star Don Lee and visionary director Lee Sang-yong, whose dynamic choreography exemplifies the world-class craft of Korean cinema,” stated Angela Russo-Otstot, producer and chief creative officer of AGBO.
I’m not gonna lie. With a third Chris Hemsworth film in development, the series with Omar Sy and now Lee’s film, I am extremely excited for all the tactical warfare action we will be getting. The first two Extraction films with Hemsworth are a chef’s kiss to the genre and director Sam Hargrave has crafted one of the best action franchises that is equal to the John Wick flicks. Lee is a force to be reckoned with in his pictures and he’s certainly going to bring the heavy firepower to this already battle tested franchise.
