I’ve stated many times on my site that while most fans of Jackie Chan’s gravitate towards his earlier efforts such as Drunken Master 2 and Armor of the Gods as go to favorites, I have always deviated from that. While I’m a super fan of all of those full-throttle martial arts spectacles, I have always declared Chan’s brutal revenge opus The Foreigner as my top hit. From acclaimed director Martin Campbell, Chan is ferociously brilliant in the movie and while it doesn’t contain as much action design or slapstick stunts as his earlier efforts, The Foreigner is an action cinema chef’s kiss.
This is the reason as I was excited when The Shadow’s Edge arrived and the trailers had the look and feel of Campbell’s stripped down, gritty thriller but ramped up to Hong Kong cinema 10. Chan is in his twilight years, but he is still hitting on all cylinders and when it comes to the action, the icon might have lost a step but he’s still the best that ever was. Throw in a dynamic and menacingly vile performance from fellow Hong Kong maestro Tony Leung as the film’s villain and this one has the makings for legendary status in the years to come.
Trinity CineAsia is releasing Chan’s The Shadow’s Edge on Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray & Digital this coming February and this release is a must for any serious, hardcore fan of action and will make a prestigious entry in your physical media arsenal.
Synopsis:Get ready for the latest critically acclaimed hit from action cinema icon Jackie Chan (Police Story, Rush Hour, Karate Kid: Legends) as he takes on a notorious criminal gang, unlike anything he’s faced before.

When a cyber-criminal gang disappears with billions, evading capture by outsmarting the Police’s formidable “Sky Eye” surveillance system, they desperately enlist the help of a legend. Wong Tak-Chung (Jackie Chan), a retired tracking expert, mentors rookie officer He Qiuguo (Zhang Zifeng, Aftershock, Upcoming) and rebuilds an elite surveillance unit. Their mission: to track down the elusive “Wolf King,” Fu Longsheng (Leung Ka Fai Tony, Election, Cold War), the mastermind behind the heist. As the police close in, the thieves spring a trap of their own. Brains clash, loyalties are tested, and the ultimate cat-and-mouse game is about to begin…

From award-winning writer-director Larry Yang (Ride On, Mountain Cry), Jackie Chan and Leung Ka Fai Tony reunite for the first time in twenty years, following their collaboration on The Myth. Now, the 71-year-old Chan plays a retired police officer, a role that continues his long-standing portrayal of law enforcement figures on screen. The Shadow’s Edge references elements of his Police Story character while offering a contemporary take on the “veteran cop” archetype.
