After yesterday’s teaser for a trailer (I love how we get trailers for trailers nowadays), the full teaser trailer, and the first of many I’m sure, for the DCU’s Supergirl has soared online! With Kal-El/Superman representing hope, humanity and honor, Kara Zor-El is a whirlwind of chaos, doubt and redemption. Milly Alcock is finally ready to take the spotlight and with it, she is bringing the swagger, bombastic energy and anti-hero aesthetic to the beloved DC Comics superhero.
Check out the new poster and first look footage below!
Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Emily Beechum as Alura, Jason Momoa as Lobo, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll. Craig Gillespie directs from a script penned by Ana Nogueira. The film looks to take its cue from the bestselling Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow which was written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. The synopsis was as follows: “After her father is murdered and the one responsible is still out there, a young alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeks out Supergirl to help her on a vicious mission. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost.”

Alcock is all spunk, ferocious energy and radiates a devil may care attitude that is the perfect yin to Superman’s yang. This is a Supergirl that’s seen some shit and she certainly doesn’t have the rose colored glasses that Clark has. Momoa is the ultimate fan casting as Lobo and looks sensational here in his brief glimpse and it’s a shame that he hasn’t played this force of nature before. Say what you will, Supergirl looks to rewrite everything we know and love about this character. It’ll also be interesting to see how a new director in Gillespie handles the assignment as Gunn has been in the center since the creation of the DCU.
Gunn has teased that this will definitely be a different Supergirl and that she will be hardcore as she has had it much rougher than her famous cousin.
