Love it, like it a little, or despise it, one cannot argue that Samara Weaving was one of the best parts of Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins. Her turn as Joe operative Scarlett was a complete banger, and she kicked a ton of ass in her limited screen time. One would be remised not to mention her turn in the sleeper hit horror gem Ready or Not six years ago and seeing her in that firmly relegates that she’s got action star status written all over her.
Well, we probably will not see Weaving take on the role of Scarlett again any time soon (disappointing to say the least), but we will see her play yet another disturbing most dangerous game when the sequel Ready or Not 2: Here I Come hits. From the acclaimed directing duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (better known as Radio Silence), who also gave us the sensationally bloody gem Abigail, Weaving is in more trouble as the events of the first film have unraveled leading to her and her reluctant sister to take on more bloodthirsty wealthy families with way too much time on their hands. Check out the crescendo of carnage, chaos and blood thirsty mayhem in store as this sequel looks to up the epic quotient of what is now a franchise!
Moments after surviving an all-out attack from the Le Domas family, Grace (Samara Weaving) discovers she’s reached the next level of the nightmarish game — and this time with her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) at her side. Grace has one chance to survive, keep her sister alive, and claim the High Seat of the Council that controls the world. Four rival families are hunting her for the throne, and whoever wins rules it all.

The Ready or Not movies feel like the John Wick franchise in that the first film, which was a small affair, came out of nowhere, hit audiences over the head with lethal blunt force trauma and now has grown into a vaster universe where the mythology is way bigger than we could have ever imagined. Plus, Weaving is a surefire star in the making and Kathryn Newton (who starred in Radio Silence’s Abigail), who joins this twisted world as her sister, looks more than able to keep up when the bloodletting commences.

The cast surrounding them is epic including Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), Shawn Hatosy (The Faculty), Néstor Carbonell (Lost), Kevin Durand (Abigail), and prolific horror and genre filmmaker David Cronenberg. The additional cast also includes Kara Wooten (Revival), Juan Pablo Romero (Please, After You), Varun Saranga (Wynonna Earp), Masa Lizdek (Simulant), Nadeem Umar-Khitab (Wedding Season), Daniel Beirne (Ginny & Georgia), Antony Hall (Run the Burbs), and Olivia Cheng (Warrior).
The first film had a modest box office intake and that’s putting it kindly, so it was unexpected when the sequel was announced. Like the aforementioned John Wick, hopefully Samara Weaving and the Ready or Not films will be able to build on the wacky mythology that is building here. We do know that much blood will be spilled during the running time and there will be waves of it. This just looks like plain fun. Pure and bloody simple. I’m all in so bring it on.
