Got off the heels of finally reviewing The Night Comes for Us (you may read here), cutting edge filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto is poised as well as locked n loaded to unleash more unflinching, blood soaked action design in his latest Netflix actioner The Shadow Strays. An elite assassin goes one woman army to take down her own organization as bullets and buckets of blood will flow like hail and water. Check out the bombastic new trailer, and key art below!
Official Synopsis:
Codename 13, a 17-year-old trained assassin is under suspension because of a sloppy mission in Japan. The girl built a conscience when she met Monji, an 11 year old boy who lost his mother to a crime syndicate. When Monji is captured, 13 is hellbent on setting a path of destruction to rescue the boy, including going against her mentor and the organization who hires her, the Shadow.

The Shadow Strays doesn’t contain the all-star real cast that Tjahjanto’s last offering had but everyone is battle ready here as the trailer encompasses vast amounts of bullet riddled carnage and action direction that only Indonesian action cinema can deliver.
The Shadow Strays will assault the Toronto International Film Festival before making its debut on October 17th on the streaming service so some lucky fans will be able to see the bone crackling adrenaline on the big screen. I always do that that’s the one thing I hate is that I’m never near any of these premieres but at least I can still partake on my big screen in my living room.

Adipati Dolken, Hana Malasan, Aurora Ribero, Ali Fikri, and Kristo Immanuel with Ribero looking gloriously tactical in the what will be smoke sequences of firepower and fisticuffs.
The plot is paper thin with this being another reluctant assassin protecting an orphan from the bad of the world. This is actually the same trope that encompasses The Night Comes for Us so there’s a massive nitpick right there.By this time, I’m pretty much just going with all these and if done correctly, it’s a pass for me if the action is brutal, coherent and satisfying.
Oh, if you’re wondering, upon viewing this trailer, I’m onboard.
If you haven’t yet, check out Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes for Us to properly pump you up for the Indonesian action epic hitting next month!
