Spoiler time is upon us as Deadpool & Wolverine has been playing in theaters for almost two weeks now so all bets are off when talking about the film. The biggest moment for me in the newest MCU release had to be, without a doubt, the exact minute when Wesley Snipes emerged from around the corner as the Daywalker himself…BLADE! Of all the surprises and easter eggs in this movie (and there were A LOT!) seeing Snipes back as the iconic half man/half vampire was the most welcoming sight. This was followed, of course, by Snipes and company consisting of Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Channing Tatum as Gambit (which was a nice surprise as well) and X-23 played by Daphne Keen kicking a little ass in the movie’s first climax moment. Sure, Blade didn’t have his iconic sword (a missed opportunity if I do say so) but it still was glorious to see Snipes initiating some old school, throwback action design once again as the main man, who is probably responsible for allowing the MCU and Marvel Studios to happen in the first place, was worth the price of admission alone.
I’m not alone in my assessment as Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, has initiated on social media to allow Snipes to continue to play Blade and get a proper send off for his version of the character. After all, Mahershala Ali is playing the role in the MCU, that is if the movie actually ever gets made. The MCU Blade has been the most plagued movie in Marvel Studios arsenal as it was announced over three years ago and is still nowhere near going into production. So come on Marvel, give the fans what they want and ley Snipes make more Blade movies!
Reynolds probably has a little pull when it comes to making things happen at Marvel, seeing as the company pretty much let him do whatever he wanted in the movie which included practically making fun of Disney, FOX and Marvel and everyone else in the process. On social media, Reynolds has started a campaign to get Snipes back into the driver’s seat by saying “there is no Fox Marvel Universe or MCU without Blade first creating a market. He’s Marvel Daddy. Please retweet for a Logan-like send off.”
Yes, Snipes is essentially Marvel Daddy just like Deadpool is Marvel Jesus and without the Blade movies being a success in 1999 and the 2000’s, there would have been no template for Marvel Studios or MCU. Reynolds made the comment on X and included a bevy of images of himself with Snipes who were at odds with each other for years ever since the debacle of Blade: Trinity. The two have since made up and having Snipes continue his involvement in the MCU as the lethal vampire hunter would be a stroke of genius. Add in Snipes and Reynolds teaming up again as both Blade and Deadpool together in more feature films would be Marvel gold just like pairing Wade with Logan. It’s what us fans want so Marvel gives it to us!

Snipes is 62 now but he still looks great, is in phenomenal shape and seeing him do Blade things in this last film was like it was 1999 all over again. He looked sensational in his limited screentime, and he hasn’t lost a step when it comes to the action design. His line of “There’s only ever gonna be one Blade“ along with Deadpool’s reaction into the camera is a clear nod to the production hell that the new Blade is going through. His other line of “some mother******s are still trying to ice skate uphill” is one of the best lines in the movie proving that Snipes still has what it takes to steal the show when the spotlight’s on him. Pure. Comic Book. Joy.
To sum it all up, Reynolds wants Snipes back as Blade. The fans want Snipes back as Balde and most importantly, I want Snipes back as Blade so hopefully Kevin Feige and company hear the war cries and make it happen. Only time will tell and I’m not holding my breath, however.
In the meantime, watch Snipes do Snipes things as the one, the only, BLADE!
