Fans of the John Wick universe was divided when the prequel series The Continental was released as it showcased some of the magic of the film franchise but ultimately misfired more than it hit when all was said and done. Personally, I liked it and thought it had a lot to offer but then it felt like they blew most of the budget on the epic finale leaving the first two/thirds to suffer.
Franchise co-creator and director Chad Stahelski recently signed a development deal with Lionsgate to make original action content as well as John Wick projects and now we are getting a taste of what’s to come from the action maestro as he and star Keanu Reeves are currently developing a sequel series that will take place after Chapter 4. This goes along with the Donnie Yen led Caine spin-off movie that is coming as well as next year’s Ballerina so it’s certainly a good time to be a Baba Yaga fan. Even if he did meet his maker at the end of the last movie.
The new series even has a title which will be John Wick: The High Table which will hail from Stahelski and Reeves who the latter will executive produce. Don’t get too excited cited though as Reeves’ involvement looks to be behind the camera for this one. Stahelski is eyeing to helm the pilot episode and will ship the series around all the steaming platforms to which the bidding war will probably be high with mass casualties when all is said and done. Who will win? Wait and see.
Robert Levine, who is best known for co-creating The Old Man, is penning the series which will hit the ground running immediately after the events of the last film which saw Wick in the Afterlife and The High Table in complete disarray. Deadline brought word of this project and states that it looks to “combine new and old and thrust the Wick universe into a new age.” This means that fans of the series can expect old characters to interact with newer ones with surprises in store for Wick faithful.
Stahelski is executive producing John Wick: The High Table along with Reeves also and like I stated, this is part of his exclusive deal that he struck with Lionsgate to personally overtake the expansion of the immersive John Wick universe. Levine will also serve as showrunner and be an executive producer too next to Reeves and Erica Lee and Basil Iwanyk of the Thunder Road production banner.
Lock N Load Wick faithful because more extreme Gun Fu action design and immersive ultra-violent sequences are in store!
